Why Should You Drive to Our Place to Buy a Murphy Wallbed?

Why?

Why?

This will be a short blog about WHY.  Have you ever been warned about asking “why questions?”  Do you know why?  Yeah, you may get an answer you don’t want to hear…

So, why would you buy from us and from nobody else?  Well, I wish you could access the exuberant responses from hundreds of satisfied customers from our time at the Special Events/Road Shows, (you know what I’m referring to?)

  • not only do we offer just what a slew of other wall bed companies offer
  • not only do we make Murphy and Panel wallbeds, Vertical and Horizontal, like everyone else (See this blog)
  • not only do we offer cabinets, desks and fold-out tables like the rest of ‘em
  • we are just not that spectacularly different.

EXCEPT! we have NO cancellations! And we have NO complaints!

Think about it!

Now, three more questions:

  • Why would you NOT buy from us?
  • Why would you NOT buy from us?
  • Why would you NOT buy from us?

We are The Great American Wallbed Co.

Now you see it. Now you don’t.

What are the Differences Between Horizontal and Vertical Wallbeds?

Go back to the blessed teacher who gave you the concept of “horizontal” vs. “vertical” by a sweeping gesture of his hand:  across (Horizontal) and up and down (Vertical).  In the case of wallbeds, the difference between Horizontal and Vertical Wallbeds can be viewed here: Horizontal Wallbeds and here: Vertical Wallbeds

H and VSome things to consider after you understand the difference between Horizontal and Vertical Wallbeds:

  • Room: Which room will you put it in? We have installed horizontal wallbeds in wide hallways!
  • Space: What is the most practical choice you can make with the space available?
  • Who: For the most part, who is going to use the bed?

You need to know that a minimum clearance is required in both width and height.  So after you measure your space, check the numbers against our charts: The Great American Wallbed Co.

NOTE: If you are in doubt about your abilities to read a tape measure (believe me, you are NOT alone), have a rep from the Wallbed/Murphy Bed company come over and help you.  Better yet, ask them to send their Designer* to give you additional creative ideas and understanding of the hidden treasures in your room.

The space available will determine what you can have, not necessarily what you want… (Yes, there are still some absolutes in the world)…again, a creative mind, like a Designer, can be of great help, usually offered at no extra cost!

  • Finally, WHO will be using this bed? If it is a child, I recommend a Horizontal Wallbed.  It is much simpler to open and close. The same recommendation goes for a shorter adult or an aging person: to make opening and closing as easy as possible.
  • If two people are sleeping in the bed at the same time, one will be on the inside against the wall in a Horizontal Wallbed. If that person has to get up in the middle of the night, well, that may cause a stir…
  • The Vertical Wallbed is more flexible, having access on either side and for that reason seems to be the most popular model.

Either way you get a bedroom in as little as 16 inches of floor space (18 for a Vertical Wallbed and 26 inches if you choose our Library Bed model.) One important note: The Pivoting Library Bed is ONLY available in Vertical.

Should I Buy a Wallbed / Murphy Bed Locally or Online?

Surfing the WWW for Wall Bed/Murphy Bed companies the other day caused me to reflect on this dilemma: Local or Online? I checked out both nationwide and local Wall Bed/Murphy Bed manufacturers.  Several of the online companies I viewed have great websites, such as Bedder Way and BredaBeds. They contain a large amount of information regarding material, finishes, measurements, pricings and so on. Usually you will have to pay freight and install it yourself with the video and written instructions provided. It can be tricky, but it is doable with enough planning and extra hands. You will save money on the installation, but probably pay more for freight.

Gerald_G_Balance_ScaleLocal Wall Bed/Murphy Bed companies in the greater Seattle/ Puget Sound area also offer good info. Among them are:  Wallbeds Northwest and Northwest Closet and Wallbeds. A local company should be able to come out to your home to measure your space and make suggestions. They will also have the ability to install your new wallbed. Make sure they are licensed and bonded before they start to assemble your wallbed. You will pay more for installation, but it will usually be done in one.  Most DIY project I have experienced, last MUCH longer than that!

Additionally, these national companies may be local or online: California Closets and Closets By Design. They offer splashy videos and mouth-watering solutions.

Honestly, most of the Wallbed/ Murphy Bed companies, both online and local, are capable and skilled in making what you want. For me, it comes down to this: personal contact and cost.

A local retail store (less shipping, handling, and installation cost) would be my decision. Why? Because I will be working with people, i.e. human beings, that I may later run into at the local Starbucks. With the national companies, it is trickier to make a lasting connection.  (Don’t you agree now that I pointed it out to you????)

  • Get a feel for whom you are dealing with. You might be surprised how simplified your process becomes.
  • In return, you will feel good for favoring and supporting one of your LOCAL companies.  We would love to be your teacher, help you zero in on your needs, and together come up with a workable and satisfying design.
  • Local Wallbed companies are usually Family Owned and Operated.  We pay Local Taxes J  Think about it!

In this case the “WE” are The Great American Wallbeds Company, (aka Seattle Wallbeds Co.) Bellevue, WA.  The “great,” in Great American Wallbed, is our reputation around the Greater Seattle Area Costco Special Events.  Chances are you saw us there first  🙂
